This is a rare photo of mid-eighties
pro wrestling action in Vancouver!

In the heydays of legendary heavyweight
champion, Gene Kiniski, Monday nights
were big wrestling nights in my town.

The Gardens at the Pacific National
Exhibition fairgrounds was where all
the action took place. Promoter Sandor
Kovacs packed The Gardens for years.

Through the 1960's and early 70's, Gene
Kiniski and many of the greatest names
in professional wrestling (both men and
women) appeared for Sandor.

Kovacs sold his promotion in the latter
half of the 1970's. Unfortunately, it
wasn't long before pro wrestling action
and attendance in the territory declined
to a point where it was no longer the
"hottest Monday night ticket in town!"

It was taken during one of the very few
occasions in the 1980's when a pro card
was presented back in The Gardens.
Furthermore, it was a unique type of
match. And, it occurred in the early career
stages of a vivacious young blonde. A
blonde who was later to become known in
international professional wrestling circles
as Desiree Petersen!

Desiree  Petersen wrestled as Malisa  Dahl
at the beginning of her career.

The action photo of Velvet McIntyre and
Malisa Dahl appeared on the back cover of
the final WOMAN WRESTLER
International Newsletter, Issue #8,
October/November 1988, published by the
defunct W.S. Johnson Publishing (New
Westminster, British Columbia). It is
the only photo ever published from the
five (black & white) "MIXED MAYHEM"
photo series (featuring Velvet McIntrye
and Malisa Dahl).
